Hello again!
Today I will be sharing my top 10 favorite songs you can incorporate into your wedding, that aren't wildly overused or overplayed but still modern! Including the song we used for our very own wedding!
Spoiler alert it’s mostly Parachute… but I digress
So starting off at Number 10 we have,
"Lover of Mine" by 5sos.
Now this is such a rich song and perfect for the couple that didn't have it easy. You've hit your rough patches, learned from your mistakes, and are ready to choose each other because being apart is hell, this is for you! The lead singer and his future wife actually wrote this song together, and I think it's so beautiful and the slow build up is everything. This is my favorite song by 5sos (big fan) so I do have to disclose that there is a heavy bias.
"When I take a look at my life
And all of my crimes
You're the only thing that I thing that i think I got right"
Moving on to Number 9, we have
"Endlessly" by The Cab
Definitely the most “upbeat” of the bunch. I ultimately love the message and story this song tells.
“And there's no guarantee
That this will be easy.
It's not a miracle you need, believe me.
Yeah, I'm no angel, I'm just me
But I will love you endlessly.”
Endlessly - The Cab
C'mon now. The rest of the song is just as beautiful, so if a slow ballad isn’t your jam, then, this is perfect for you or rather, “it's not perfect but i swear it's perfect for youuuuu”
At Number 8 we have,
"I’ll be" by Edwin McCain
This is the song for you if you have ever wanted your Hillary Duff in Another Cinderella Story moment. I even wore a Cinderella wedding dress and didn't play this song, missed opportunities but no regrets. I kept my dress, so maybe I'll end up recreating it for a video! Anyways, this song is such a classic, but might slip under the radar of most if the movie isn't fresh in your hippocampus.
"And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love's suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life"
For Number 7, we have a fairly new song (at the time of writing) but I predict it will be a wedding staple and classic for the future generations to come.
"Hesitate" by The Jonas Brothers
Written by Joe Jonas for the one and only Sophie Turner. If you’ve been living under a rock, or not a Jonas Fan and have not yet heard this masterpiece then I would love to trade places with you so I could hear this song for the first time again, but this time as my husband sings it to me acapella. (my husband can't sing or memorize lyrics for the life of him but a girl can dream)
"I will take your pain
And put it on my heart
I won't hesitate
Just tell me where to start
I thank the oceans for giving me you
You saved me once and now I'll save you too
I won't hesitate for you"
At Number 6 we have,
"Kiss Me Slowly" by Parachute
I once again disclose that I am the biggest Parachute fan, and heavy bias awaits you for the rest of this post. Getting right to it, Parachute has mastered the ability to translate the feeling of falling in love into words, harmonies, and music. You know when you're in the “wanting to be more than friends” phase, and the tension has been bubbling and building, and you're scared and excited at the same time and as you stare at each other you feel it coming… the moment you've both been wanting and waiting for…you're about to kiss. Well, this is that feeling in a song. Just me? Highly unlikely
"Well, I'm not sure what this is gonna be,
But with my eyes closed all I see
Is the skyline, through the window,
The moon above you and the streets below.
Hold my breath as you're moving in,
Taste your lips and feel your skin.
When the time comes, baby don't run, just kiss me slowly."
Another Jonas Brothers song? Yes. At Number 5 we have,
“When You Look Me In The Eyes” by The Jonas Brothers
I feel like we all kind of forget about this song until we hear it on our throwback’s playlist. I think this song should get more attention than it does in the wedding music suggestion lists, but I get it, not everyone is a JoBro fanatic. Can’t relate!
"When you look me in the eyes,
I catch a glimpse of heaven
I find my paradise
When you look me in the eyes"
More than halfway through at Number 4 we have another… you guessed it…Parachute song,
“When You Move” by Parachute
My favorite part of this song is the accompanying female vocals that just blend so beautifully with the lead singer, Will’s, voice. This song feels like desire, the want to know every part of them but not being able to just yet. The waiting as desire builds. It feels like inching closer to the edge of falling in love.
"Never been so in love
Water's never been so cruel
Running down your silhouette, tracing every part of you
When you move"
TOP 3 ALREADY? I guess I have to wrap up the gushing then! Standing tall at Number 3 is,
“She Is Love” by none other than Parachute
This song is so special and will have you wishing it was written about you and for you. I mean there's nothing left for me to say, you just have to listen to it. My words could never do it justice.
"And I lost my faith
In my darkest days
But she makes me want to believe
They call her love, love, love, love, love
They call her love, love, love, love, love
She is love
And she is all I need
She's all I need"
In Second Place, we have,
"La Vie En Rose" by Emily Watts
It's just perfect. It's the perfect song. It picked up traction on TikTok and now I listen to French music during my downtime, and it’s in English! Life seen through rose colored glasses…whose pulling on my heartstrings?
"When you kiss me, Heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes, I see la vie en rose"
La Vie En Rose - Emily Watts
Sitting comfy in First place in my heart and this post , and the song I walked down the aisle to,
"Everything" By Parachute
My feelings for my husband in lyric form.
"I can't help but stare and wonder
How you fell for me
It's too much to explain
But believe me when I say
You're only everything... To Me"
The pace and timing was perfect for my bridal party to make their way down and then as the tempo picked up for the climax of the song, I made my entrance. It was a dream!
Well you've reached the end of my list, and if you're reading this I appreciate you and the time you took out of your day to read my incoherent string of words and song titles.
These songs have always been special to me, way before I was ever a bride. If you end up using one of these songs, I would love for you to let me know! If you take anything away from this article, I hope you give Parachute a listen and fall in love with their songs and story telling as much as I do. “She for Liz” is arguably my favorite song ever tied with “Love me Anyways” . Not for a wedding, but who knows!
I hope you are able to incorporate any one of these songs into your walk, first dance, during dinner intermission, or use them as a moment to slow dance!
Wishing all of you future brides the best of luck!
Happy searching…and listening.
-Ash
